Sow inside – March to June and plant out when seedlings have developed their first true leaves. Sow outside – April to June Sow 15cm deep in 2.5cm drills. Space lines 15cm apart. Plant them 15cm apart – it is a little too close, but when grown like this, the roots will push each other apart to produce a clump of small tender beets. Harvest – May to August.

Carrot seeds

There are approximately 600 Carrot seeds in this beautifully designed envelope.

Sow outside late March to End June. Sow anytime indoors. Prepare an area of soil in a sunny position. Sow seeds thinly in drills 1 to 1.5cm deep and 20cm between rows. When seedlings are large enough to handle thin plants to 10cm apart. Water regularly. Harvest: 12-16 weeks after sowing.

Pea seeds

There are approximately 9 Pea Seeds in this beautifully designed envelope by a group of artists, so “Give Peas a Chance” and get planting.

Sow outside March to April or October to November. Sow anytime indoors. Dig a shallow trench about 2.5cm deep and 15cm wide. Sow rows of seeds about 4cm apart. Push lightly into soil and rake the soil carefully back over and gently firm. Allow 45cm between rows. Seeds germinate 7-10 days. For overwintering crops either sow outside but give added protection with cloche or sow in greenhouse and transplant when strong enough but still protect in cold weather. Harvest: Late May (for Autumn sown) to October

Sweet pepper

There are approximately 40 Pepper seeds in this beautifully designed envelope.

Sow anytime indoors. Sow thinly, 0.5cm (¼") deep, in a tray of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20°C (60-68°F) is ideal. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days. Transplant to individual pots when large enough to handle. Grow on in cooler, but not cold conditions. Plant out May-June, to large pots, growing bags or into warm, well-drained soil in the greenhouse border. For outdoor crops: delay indoor sowing until March or April. Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 40cm (16") apart, when frosts are over. Choose a warm, sunny, sheltered spot. Outdoor crops will be smaller and later than those in a greenhouse. Harvest: July-October.
